How Does Optimized Lens Geometry Work in Biofinity Toric Monthly Contact Lenses?
Optimized Lens Geometry is the stabilization technology built into Biofinity Toric — ensuring the astigmatism correction remains accurately oriented throughout daily wear. Without reliable stabilization, a toric lens rotates on the eye, causing fluctuating or blurred vision. Optimized Lens Geometry is CooperVision's engineered solution to this challenge.
Why Toric Lens Stabilization Matters
Unlike spherical lenses, toric lenses have two different optical powers — one correcting the sphere prescription, the other correcting astigmatism at a specific axis. If the lens rotates, the correction misaligns and vision deteriorates. Contact lenses naturally move with every blink and eye movement, so a toric lens must be designed to resist rotation and return rapidly to correct orientation after any displacement.
How Optimised Lens Geometry Works
Optimized Lens Geometry creates a series of carefully calculated thickness variations across the lens. Thin zones at the top and bottom — where the upper and lower eyelids rest during blinking — mean the eyelids exert less rotational force. Controlled thickness in the intermediate zones means the natural lid pressure during and after each blink acts to orient and hold the lens in the correct rotational position.
The result is a lens that uses the natural mechanics of blinking — approximately 15,000 times per day — to continuously re-orient and stabilize itself. The more the wearer blinks, the more consistently the lens returns to correct alignment.
Performance Across the Monthly Cycle
Combined with Aquaform® Technology keeping the lens naturally hydrated and dimensionally stable, the Optimized Lens Geometry mechanism maintains its effectiveness across the full 30-day monthly wear cycle. Consult your eye care professional to confirm whether Biofinity Toric is appropriate for your astigmatism prescription.
